Proactive police crime team sets out deployment across Sutton Coldfield
Police officers from a proactive crime team are beginning work in Sutton Coldfield to tackle crimes such as burglary, robbery, and vehicle offences.
Operation Skybridge, Birmingham’s proactive crime team, is turning its attention to Sutton Coldfield as it aims to continue driving down crime and protecting communities across the area.
Having recently carried out positive enforcement in Erdington, the team will continue to focus on these issues as well as working to combat drug crime.
Since beginning their deployment in Sutton Coldfield, the team have made multiple arrests, engaged with the community, and have received a positive response to their presence so far.
Over the weekend, the team issued a man out as wanted and arrested him within 24 hours. The 39-year-old was charged with burglary and has since pleaded guilty. He will be sentenced next month.
On Monday, the team were carrying out patrols around the Falcon Lodge estate, where the driver of a vehicle reacted to their presence.
The driver then fled from the vehicle and a short foot chase a man was detained on Springfield Road.
Following searches in the area, officers seized multiple wraps of Class A drugs along with a mobile phone suspected of being linked to drug dealing.
A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply, driving without insurance, and driving whilst disqualified. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "This is just a sample of their work and Skybridge officers will continue to carry out their patrols across Sutton Coldfield.
"Skybridge officers work around the clock across a mixture of shifts including early in the morning and overnight, and will maintain their presence in the area over the next few weeks.
"You may see officers out on high-visibility patrols, but there will be also a range of plain-clothed and intelligence work happening that you may not see.
"As they work to target those intent on causing harm in Sutton Coldfield, the Skybridge team are keen to hear from you.
"If you have any information relating to the offences they’re targeting, please email Opskybridge@westmidlands.police.uk"
