Officers from West Midlands Police seized a mobile phone belonging to Xhevahir Ademaj after stopping a car and recovering a stash of cannabis in West Bromwich in July.

The phone was forensically examined and officers were able to establish a network of clients to which he was clearly supplying drugs.

The force carried out a raid at an address linked to Ademaj in Ryland Street in Birmingham and discovered a large amount of cannabis and wraps of cocaine.

Wads of cash and various SIM cards were also recovered, and there was evidence of drugs being packaged and distributed from the premises.

Ademaj was charged with possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply and also being concerned in the supply of cannabis.

The 27-year-old, of no fixed address but previously from Smethwick, pleaded guilty to the offences and was sentenced to four years imprisonment at Birmingham Crown Court on December 9.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "The investigation was carried out by officers from the West Midlands Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU) and we strongly believe Ademaj was a significant part of a supply chain and involved in large sales to other dealers.

" Drugs not only ruin lives but fuel other crime, and we've managed to take someone involved in the illegal network off the streets and put behind bars.

"We’re running Operation Target as part of our work to take drugs off the streets and tackle organised crime."
