Firearm and ammunition recovered in Sandwell town

Three people have been arrested after a live firearm was recovered in a Sandwell town.

West Midlands Police have arrested three men on suspicion of firearms offences after a live firearm and ammunition were found in Wednesbury.

It comes after patrolling officers pulled over a vehicle on Crankhall Lane at around 12.10am on Monday.

Three people were found to be inside the vehicle. 

Following searches of the vehicle, each person's associated addresses, officers recovered two knives, a live firearm, ammunition, and an amount of cannabis.

A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and possession of a knife. 

A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm, possession of a knife, and possession of cannabis. 

And a third man, also aged 21, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm, possession of a knife, possession of cannabis, and an unrelated assault. 

All three remain in custody for questioning. 

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We work 24/7 to identify criminals involved in serious organised crime and bring them to justice, while preventing people from falling victim to some of their traumatic or harmful crimes.
