Four suspects in Wolverhampton cells as police teams maintain their focus on shop thefts
Four people have been taken into custody in Wolverhampton on suspicion of theft as part of a proactive neighbourhood policing initiative.
The first arrest on Monday evening saw officers alerted to a report of confectionary being taken from a shop in the city centre, where they subsequently detained a man his 20s, who remains in custody on suspicion of theft.
Two more arrests were made at addresses in Wolverhampton on Tuesday morning following shop thefts in Bilston, with a woman in her 30s arrested at just before 7.30am today following thefts which saw goods taken in July and a second woman, in her 20s, arrested from a different address on suspicion of stealing from two shops in Bilston last month.
Also in the Wolverhampton custody suite is a man in his 40s, who was arrested earlier on Tuesday by officers in neighbouring Walsall, following thefts from two shops in Walsall Wood two weeks ago.
All four people remain in custody on suspicion of theft as investigations continue.
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We know that thefts from our shops and stores has an impact on our retailers and our wider community.
"Our teams across Wolverhampton, the Black Country and the West Midlands Police area are committed to identifying, tracing and arresting those who carry out such crimes.
"It's just part of our work supporting the national #SaferStreetsSummer initiative in town and city centres across the West Midlands this summer and beyond.
"The activity is part of our ongoing commitment to neighbourhood policing and supporting our communities.
