Fire service believe that grass and tree fires which affected homes in Dudley was started 'deliberately'

A fire which affected fences and homes in an area of Dudley is believed to have been started deliberately, according to the fire service.

The blaze happened on Monday morning near Bullfinch Close in Dudley and saw crews from three fire stations work to extinguish two separate fire involving trees and grass.

Residents living nearby were urged to keep their windows closed, while fences near properties were affected by the flames.

West Midlands Fire Service have now confirmed that it believes the fires were started deliberately.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "Shortly before 10.55am on Monday 26 August, we responded to Bullfinch Close, Dudley.

"Three fire engines and a 4x4 brigade response vehicle attended, crewed by firefighters from Brierley Hill, Haden Cross and Dudley stations. The first crew were at the scene within five minutes of being mobilised.

"Firefighters extinguished two separate fires involving trees and grass using hose reels and beaters. The fires are believed to have been started deliberately.

"We left this incident at 12.47pm."

West Midlands Police have been contacted for a comment.
