Man accused of hiring hitman to kill partner

A man has been accused of hiring an undercover police officer as a hitman to kill his partner in Staffordshire.

Graham Burgess, 45, appeared at Cannock Magistrates' yesterday on one charge of soliciting to commit murder. It is said to have taken place between November 9 and 21 in Stone, when Burgess is alleged to have arranged the killing of Alison Trigg. Burgess, of Kidsgrove, gave no indication of his plea.

He was remanded in custody. He will appear at Stafford Crown Court on December 13 for a preliminary hearing.
