The masked men ambushed the officers as they stopped to drop off money at the cash machine at BP Snax 24, in Pedmore Road, Brierley Hill.
The men brandished the weapons and ordered the officers to open their van – but they refused and within minutes the men fled empty handed in a blue Audi car at 6.30am yesterday.
Station manager Thambirajah Prathepan was taking a fuel delivery at the time of the attempted robbery. He ran inside and called police.
