HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has updated its list of deliberate tax defaulters, naming more than 160 people and companies who failed to pay over £25,000 in tax - including five that are a little close to home.

The new entries, published on November 20, cover a mix of sectors, including vape importers, waste brokers, property developers and online retailers.

Each was penalised for not fully disclosing their tax issues when HMRC began investigating.

The details in the list, which only covers civil penalties, will stay published for 12 months.

Kevin Hubbard, HMRC's Director of Individuals and Small Business Compliance, said: “We are committed to tackling those who deliberately default on the tax they owe and creating a level playing field for businesses.

“By publishing the names of deliberate defaulters and their penalties, we send a clear message that non-compliance has consequences.”
