The development on the Washington Centre Trading Estate, off Halesowen Road, will include a 1,836 sq ft Starbucks unit, 24 parking spaces and six EV charging bays, and is expected to create 10 full-time jobs and 10 part-time roles.

Dudley Council approved a plan for the new offering, on currently vacant land on the trading estate, under delegated powers on Tuesday (October 21).

A planning officer's report said: "Its location within a busy commercial area presents an opportunity to revitalise underused land without compromising the operational integrity of neighbouring employment uses."

Construction work is scheduled to get under way in the coming weeks and the development is expected to be completed by the summer of 2026.

Hinton Design and Build Limited will be undertaking the construction work, with the project managed by Trinity Property Consultants.

Land owner Folkes Properties has welcomed news that planning permission has been granted.

“This is an exciting milestone for both Folkes Properties and the local community,” said Chris Bartley, director at Folkes.

“The new drive-thru not only brings a popular national brand to Netherton but also includes modern features such as EV charging bays, reflecting our commitment to sustainable and community-focused developments.”

A planning officer's report, which recommended the scheme be approved, said the plan had been amended slightly to address highways concerns about parking layout, accessibility, and servicing.

Folkes said it will continue to work closely with local authorities and stakeholders to ensure the project is delivered to the highest standards and benefits the surrounding area.

Once complete, the new drive-thru is scheduled to operate from 6am to 11pm, seven days a week.
