The family of a pensioner who died after being hit by a car outside the Bullring shopping centre have paid tribute to a 'doting husband, father and grandfather'.

Abdullah Khan was hit by a car last Tuesday, suffering head, pelvic, and arm injuries, and was taken to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital in a critical condition.

Following the crash in Park Lane the 85-year-old died from his injuries two days later on Thursday.

Mr Khan - who is from Birmingham - was crossing the road when he was hit by the Peugeot 206 at 6.08pm.

The driver of the car, a 32-year-old man, was spoken to at the scene and is continuing to assist West Midlands Police with the inquiry.

The pensioner's family today paid tribute to him, saying: "He was a doting husband, father and grandfather and will be sorely missed by all of his family. We ask that anyone who knows or saw anything of the collision to contact the police.''

PC Claire Byrne, from the force's collision investigation unit, said: "Our thoughts are with the family of Mr Khan at this tragic time.

"We know that other people were around the area at the time of the collision and would urge anyone with information to contact the police on 101 and ask for PC Byrne at the Collision Investigation Unit."
