Appeal launched after concerns raised for child's welfare at Sutton Coldfield station

Detectives are continuing enquiries to identify the child and establish who he was with on the night

Police are appealing for information after concerns were raised about the welfare of a young boy seen at Sutton Coldfield railway station.

British Transport Police (BTP) said a witness contacted officers on Saturday, July 18, after reporting concerns about a child they had seen at the station at around 10pm the previous evening.

The boy is described as black, approximately 10 years old, and was wearing a blue T-shirt, black tracksuit bottoms and carrying a black rucksack. He was also with a mountain bike.

Detectives are continuing enquiries to identify the child and establish who he was with on the night.

Officers are particularly keen to speak to a man and a woman who were seen with the boy at the station and may be able to assist with the investigation.

The man is described as white, in his mid-50s, with short grey hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt and dark trousers. The woman, also believed to be in her mid-50s, is described as white, wearing glasses, a blue top with white spots, white trousers, and with shoulder-length grey-blonde hair.

Anyone who saw the child or has information that could help the investigation is asked to contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 231 of 18 July.

Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
