The football competition, which has been contested by amateur and semi-professional clubs across the West Midlands since 1926 and is in progress this season is celebrating it's 100th year, with a target of £500,000 raised for the centre since then getting ever closer.

Another golf day in December last year at the same venue raised £1,400 and a similar amount is expected from tomorrow's event, which will start at 12 noon.

The cup has also received donations from sponsors including the Bilston based JW Gough Group and the West Bromwich Building Society and fundraiser Sylvia Enefer recently held a luncheon at her home in Codsall which raised £300.

She said: "It all counts and we are working tirelessly towards the magic £500,000 mark which we hope to raise by the centenary dinner in September.

"The final which is held at Molineux and which Dudley Town won last year is always a great event an well attended and again raises money for the cup, which is kept at the ground.

"But the work goes on year round and events such as the golf day keep things ticking along.

" We are all very grateful to organiser Alan Ryder and his colleagues, the sponsors and of course the players for turning out for what I am sure will be a great day."
