Police are investigating a hate crime at a crematorium near Walsall and are appealing for help.

West Midlands Police officers are investigating a hate crime at the crematorium in Little Hardwick Road, Streetly, near Walsall.

The hate crime concerns racist graffiti being sprayed on a grassed area. Police said the graffiti has since been removed.

Walsall Community Independents have spoken out about the vandalism.

In a post on social media the group said: ”We are aware of some hateful graffiti that has been sprayed on the grass at Streetly Cemetery.

“We have contacted senior officers at the Council and Cemetery staff. This will be removed immediately.

“The incident is being reported to the Police.

“We ask everyone to remain calm and report anything suspicious to the Police immediately.”

A spokesperson for WMP told the Express & Star: “We were alerted yesterday (20 March) to racist graffiti being sprayed on a grassed area at the crematorium in Little Hardwick Road, Streetly.

“The graffiti has since been removed and we'd ask anyone for information to contact us via Live Chat on our website, or by calling 101, and quote 20/185342/26.

“We take all reports of hate crime seriously, because we know that they have a devastating impact on individual victims and targeted communities.”
