Police update on body in canal found in Wolverhampton
Police have issued an update on their investigation into the discovery of a body in a canal in Wednesfield in Wolverhampton
Police were spotted on Lichfield Road and Broad Lane in Wednesfield in Wolverhampton on Saturday morning amid reports a body had been found in the canal.
The canal towpath was cordoned off and officers could be seen patrolling the canal banks as their cars were parked on the nearby bridge.
Now West Midlands Police has confirmed that a man’s body was found in the canal. His death is not being treated as suspicious.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “We were called to reports of a man's body in a canal off Broad Lane, Wednesfield at just after 7am today (Sat).
“Sadly he was confirmed dead at the scene and we are working to identify him and inform next of kin. His death is currently being treated as non-suspicious.”
The incident prompted alarm among local people.

Cameron Williams, aged 28, of Broad Lane, said: "We didn't even know anything had happened until we saw the two police cars.
"It's horrible though, I hope the person's family is coping alright. It's a terrible thing to happen."
Janet Hughes, aged 71, also of Broad Lane, said: "It's so sad."I don't really know what to say. It makes you so sad to think that something like that has happened. My thoughts are with their family."
Peter Taylor, aged 50, also of the area, said: "I usually walk my dog down there in the morning. I didn't know anything had happened until I saw the cordon. It's such a shame, I hope the family is okay."
