Shop theft suspect charged following arrest in Wolverhampton

A suspected shop thief is due to appear in court following three shop thefts in Wolverhampton.

David Everitt, aged 41, has been charged with three shop thefts from three stores in Wolverhampton between July and September of this year.

The 41-year-old was detained by West Midlands Police officers at an address near the city centre following the theft of alcohol and clothing totalling around £800 from three stores.

Following the arrest, Everitt was charged with three thefts, and is due to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court today. 

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We do take shop theft seriously as we know how much it impacts traders, store staff and the communities they serve.

"And we are arresting many more people across the board, with 60,111 arrests in the last 12 months (Oct 24 – Sep 25) – an increase of 20,000 against the amount in 2022."
