Since its installation in 1990 to commemorate Jerome K Jerome, a Caldmore-born author who published The Three Men in a Boat in 1889, the legendary Three Men in a Boat automaton has been a popular meeting point in the Saddlers Shopping Centre in Walsall town centre.

The iconic clock was also a landmark for those visiting the town, and featured the titular three men sitting in a boat.
