The turnout was brilliant. Businesses, training providers and education institutions from across the Black Country came together under one roof, each showcasing the skills, opportunities and career pathways available right here on our doorstep. It was an important reminder that Halesowen is a town full of ambition, talent and potential.

The range of sectors represented was particularly impressive. From the West Midlands Ambulance Service and public sector employers, to Sandwell and Halesowen College, and industries such as groundworks, construction and skilled trades, the event reflected the diversity and strength of our local economy. These are careers that keep our communities running, build our infrastructure, care for our residents and create real prospects for progression. That diversity is something we should celebrate.

At a time when tackling unemployment and reducing the number of young people not in education, employment or training (NEET) remains a national priority, events like this are more important than ever. Connecting people directly with employers and training providers breaks down barriers and opens doors. It gives school leavers, career changers and those returning to work the chance to ask questions, make contacts and see first-hand the opportunities available to them.

Importantly, the jobs fair was not only about vacancies today, but about skills for tomorrow. Apprenticeships, vocational training, further education and professional development routes were all on display — clear pathways for long-term, sustainable careers. In a changing economy, equipping people with the right skills is key to driving growth and ensuring local people benefit from investment across our region.

I would like to thank Halesowen BID, the DWP, and Halesowen College for organising such a successful event. This partnership demonstrates what can be achieved when local organisations collaborate.

I am proud to support initiatives like the Jobs Fair and will continue working to ensure that our community has the opportunities, skills and investment it deserves.
