£1,000 grants to keep residents active for longer
New funding aiming to keep residents active and independent for longer in later life has been launched in South Staffordshire.
Community groups across the district will have the opportunity to apply for funding of up to £1,000 to support projects that help those aged 65-plus stay well, connected, and active.
The Local Improvement Framework funding, facilitated by South Staffordshire Council, seeks to prevent falls and frailty as residents age, ensuring support is available early on, before physical issues and isolation become harder to manage.
Eligible projects would be those which offer ways for older residents to improve their strength and balance, take part in regular activities, or access support that helps them stay independent. This might include exercise programmes, sports clubs, community groups, or other ideas that encourage people to remain engaged and confident in their daily lives.
All projects should aim to make services easier to reach, reduce isolation, and build up opportunities for people to get involved with their community.
Commenting on the initiative, leader of South Staffordshire Council, Councillor Kath Perry MBE, said: “In South Staffordshire, we have an ageing population who often live in rural locations.
“It is so important to us that our residents are supported and given every opportunity to socialise, stay active, and live independently and healthily for as long as possible.
“I would urge any groups who might be interested in the funding to get in touch. This is an excellent opportunity to help those in our communities who most need it.”
No more than one application per project a year will be allowed. The maximum funding available for each project is £1,000.
Organisations and groups of all sizes who are able to make a difference are encouraged to apply.
