MiniBrum to the Planetarium: Pegasus pupils experience science firsthand
Year 4 learners at Pegasus Primary School, part of the Summit Learning Trust, had an interactive and educational visit to Birmingham’s Thinktank science museum this term.
The children participated in a workshop all about the digestive system, sparking curiosity and inspiring them to learn even more about how the human body works.
The visit also gave the children the chance to explore some of Thinktank’s most popular exhibits. From the child-sized MiniBrum city, complete with transport zones, shops, parks, and construction areas, to the immersive ‘Science Garden’ with over 30 interactive exhibits, the day offered learning through play and discovery.
Learners also experienced the planetarium, journeyed through the solar system, explored ‘Wild Life’ and ‘Marine Worlds’, and discovered historic engines in the Smethwick Engine exhibit and the ‘Move It’ transport gallery. Highlights also included the ‘Spitfire Gallery’, where learners learned about the science of flight.

The trip linked closely to the school’s science curriculum, which encourages hands-on exploration of biology, chemistry, and physics. Learners investigate topics such as animals, including humans, forces, states of matter, and Earth and space, while developing enquiry skills, using scientific evidence, and recording observations through a variety of methods.
Mr Adam Ames, Principal at Pegasus Primary School said: “Our Year 4s really enjoyed spending the day at the Thinktank. It was lovely to explore and discuss the experiences with each other. The workshop and exhibits really brought science to life, leaving the children excited and curious to find out even more.”
