Walsall school receives £3,000 cash boost to support local sports campaign
A Walsall based grammar school has received a donation from a national housebuilder in support of its’ Future Sport campaign.
Queen Mary Grammar School in Walsall, has secured the £3,000 cash boost from Persimmon Homes Central region.
The campaign is seeking to raise sufficient funds to redevelop outdoor sporting facilities including the grass pitches, drainage work and natural turf pitches for cricket and rugby and the refurbishment of the pavilion to add changing rooms and improve social facilities.
Commenting on the funding, Headteacher Richard Langton said: “These improvements will benefit not only the school but also the local community. It will allow us to make more time available for Walsall CC, Bloxwich CC, Bronze CC, Walsall TC, Beacon HC, Walsall RFC, Staffordshire cricket as well as other schools and community groups, particularly those aimed at disadvantaged groups.

We want to provide access for thousands of people, as well as our school of 1400, creating a significant local asset. We have £1m in pledges and have started the work for phases 1 and 2.
Sport England reports that Walsall is an area of significant inactivity, with Asian/Black children, girls and those from lower affluent families, still less likely to play sport or be physically active. We want to encourage sports clubs to grow their membership and attract more children into sport, as well as providing access for community groups that support disadvantaged people.”
Joseph Davis, Commercial Director for Persimmon Homes Central visited the school recently and said: “What we do is about much more than just building homes, it’s about leaving a lasting positive legacy in the communities that we build in. We’re always delighted to lend a hand to local schools and community groups to boost their ongoing initiatives or contribute to causes that mean a lot to them.”
“It’s great to be able to provide Queen Mary Grammar School with this donation which will go towards the improvements they are looking to make to benefit the school and the wider community.”
