Warm drinks, warm hearts: Age Concern café brings community together
The reviews are all raving for the Elton Centre cafe following its relaunch this spring, as both older and younger visitors get to enjoy the freshly prepared food.
Age Concern Stourbridge and Halesowen’s cafe is based at St John’s, by the fire station. It is conveniently next to the Stourbridge Town Railway and Bus station, making it easy to drop in for something to eat or drink when visiting the town using public transport.
The cafe, which is set up to raise money to help fund this invaluable charity, provides affordable, nutritional food from as little as £1.30 for something on toast to £8.10 for a substantial breakfast. Daily specials and firm favourites are also always on the menu - ensuring there is something for everyone.
David Harbach, chair of trustees commented: “We are so pleased that the visitors to our cafe are giving us such positive feedback about the food and experience. We have regular visitors who come back time after time for the affordable, tasty food - many of whom have now started to attend other activities held by our charity.
“The Elton Centre is such a hidden gem as we provide important support and activities for the residents aged 50+ living in the Stourbridge and Halesowen area. Isolation experienced by older people is a growing phenomenon and something which we aim to tackle. Our cafe helps us to raise funds for our worthwhile charity - a charity which is self funded.”
The cafe is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 2pm.
The charity also holds a Sunday three course lunch on selected monthly dates - ensuring older people enjoy healthy, hearty food in the company of friends and volunteers. Visit acsh.org.uk to check dates.
Age Concern is a lifeline for many older people living in the areas of Stourbridge and Halesowen as we provide so much help, support and opportunities for individuals to enrich their lives. Being older is no longer the sedimentary lifestyle it used to be - today people are living longer and they want to enjoy their later years. We not only provide advice, support and assistance, we also hold many events and activities at our lovely, tailor made building.
