"He's impressed us" - Rob Edwards on Wolves' teenage hero after Arsenal draw

Edozie has been part of the match day squad in recent weeks and could now find more opportunities coming his way after making his mark.

"We're still learning about him, he's been training with us over this last week or two," Edwards said.

"He's impressed us with some really nice moments, he's technically a gifted player, but we're still learning about him ourselves. 

"We just had a feeling. Bellegarde had been brilliant in the game but he's been out a while and not been playing as many minutes, and sometimes you have a feeling and then that gut is proved right. 

"As he was coming on, I just put my arm around him and said, 'this could be your moment, go and take it'. 

"His first couple of touches, it was difficult, he was getting his bearings still with Declan Rice breathing down his neck. It's a bit new for him, but then I thought he took his goal brilliantly.

"It's a lovely moment for him. He'll remember that, his family will remember that for a long, long time.

"He's just happy, he's just got a big smile on his face. 

"He's a quiet boy, he has been with us at the moment and you'd expect that when you're new into the first-team group. 

"But we've got a short squad at the moment and the young lads know that there's probably going to be one or two of them on the bench in most games now. So, if they're doing well and we feel that they're ready, there could be opportunities for some of the younger players."

Edozie signed for Wolves on a free from a grassroots academy in London in 2022 before signing professional terms in 2024.

When asked if that proves the worth of good scouting, Edwards said: "It does, and it also shows if you're a young lad or young girl, don't give up.

"If you've got dreams, just don't give up, keep fighting. You never know when someone's watching and you could get that opportunity. 

"He didn't know he was going to get that opportunity tonight and then it's come along and he won't be able to see anything else over the next day or two, will he? Apart from him, which is nice."

Edwards added: "It's nice to get a late equaliser, especially when you're 2-0 down against a team like that. 

"It was a big game against top opposition and to find ourselves 2-0 down, when really we haven't done loads wrong, we've just got two big moments wrong. 

"The goals were poor from our point of view. 

"But to come back, show the character, belief, fight and will, I'm really proud of the lads tonight."

Meanwhile, Edwards was unable to give an update on Angel Gomes' injury after he came off in the first half.

"It's his back, it's a bit of a strange injury," he said.

"We'll have to see how he is, hopefully, he's OK, but at the moment his back is locked up."
