Review: Tom Allsopp performs his new show at Midlands Fringe

The venue was at The Lych Gate Tavern in Wolverhampton in a cosy, half-timbered upper room.

The title of Tom's performance was ‘Ten Years a Dad’. Tom immediately engaged the audience with wit and humour about early fatherhood and beyond. Exploring and explaining his experiences of becoming a father for the first time, he read meaningfully and from a personal perspective.

Most of the audience related to his experiences. His wonder, bewilderment and joy were aptly described in tales and poems. There was a rapport with the audience as they engaged with Tom's witty recollections. His hilarious NHS experiences and those of his home life were vividly told.

The poems were touching and often poignant as the audience applauded after their renditions. They were written from a father's perspective and evoked the true reality of fatherhood.

The concluding poem: Best Laid Plans was one Tom was particularly proud of. Again, it was received warmly by the audience.

I'd recommend Tom's performance to future audiences and await to hear any new, enlightening tales and poems he'll surely bring to the next show. An enjoyable and entertaining afternoon was had by all.
