A special student night was staged at New Look in West Bromwich in a bid to encourage more shoppers into the town centre.

Sandwell College students helped pick out the outfits for the catwalk show, while local dancers showed off their moves in the build up to the fashion event.

Lisa Hill, West Bromwich Town Centre Co-Ordinator, said she was pleased with the turn out. "It has been a really good event; there were plenty of people stopping and taking the time to have a look at what was going on," she said.

Hair and Beauty students from the college put their skills to work while other students picked out their outfits for the night.

To kick things off dancers from Cre8 Distinction put on a show for the crowd, who were waiting to get into the shop take advantage of a 20 per cent discount for students.

Mrs Hill, who works for the Black Country Chamber of Commerce, created the event in Partnership with Sandwell Council and the college.

She added: "This latest event is part of a much larger scheme designed to increase footfall in the town centre.

"This is the first of many events that will be happening in West Bromwich in the near future."

As part of the initiative a street performance area will be constructed on the High Street outside Poundland that will provide performers with power points and special lighting. Mrs Hill added: "We are really looking forward to bringing some exciting acts to the high street."
