Seven people were injured – six seriously – at Walsall bus station today in a crash involving two buses, a van, two cars and pedestrians.

The chaos involved an Arriva bus travelling in the wrong direction and was described by one witness as "absolute carnage".

The single-decker was in collision with a Travel West Midlands bus at around 11.30am while other cars driving through were also caught up in the drama.

Scores of passengers were evacuated as hundreds of horrified shoppers and workers looked on in disbelief.

A 66-year-old woman was this afternoon critically ill after being airlifted to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham with multiple leg injuries.
