Cammy Devlin and Thelo Aasgaard ‘will be fine’ for Rangers’ opening game

Boss Derek McInnes is confident injuries sustained by the duo against West Ham are not serious.
Derek McInnes is confident Cammy Devlin and Thelo Aasgaard will be fit for Rangers’ first game of the Scottish Premiership season after they came off in the goalless friendly against West Ham at Ibrox.
Norway playmaker Aasgaard had to be replaced after sustaining a shoulder injury, while Australia international Devlin did not appear for the second half due to a calf complaint.
After the final pre-season game before Friday’s league opener against Dundee United at Tannadice, McInnes said: “A couple of wee knocks, Cammy Devlin with his calf and Thelo with his shoulder, but both will be fine for the weekend.
“So the fact that we’ve come through the game without any injuries is pleasing.”
McInnes has made seven signings so far this summer but is looking to bring in “a couple of key positions” as he admitted wanting more in the final third of the pitch.
“We deliberately went in two different shapes, the first half and the second half, it was always the intention,” said the former Rangers midfielder, who went with a back three after the break.
“The second half was just to try and get a shape that would allow us to get the boys the minutes.
“And I thought more shapes were decent in the game, I thought we looked solid enough, which was an improvement from the other night, to be honest.
“And I thought the intensity of the game was far better, I thought we were sharp in our work, particularly in the first half.
“I thought we turned the ball over well, I thought we looked after the ball well and we got ourselves into some good areas, but we’re a lack of quality at times let us down.
“The final cross or the decision to take a shot or not wasn’t quite as clean as I would have hoped. And it’s these sort of things that we need to work on in the last week or so.
“Obviously we’re trying to address bringing a couple of key positions into the club, and as soon as we can get those in the better, I think, because obviously we’ve still got a long way in the window to go, but we want to be as strong as we can from the get-go for the league, and also in Europe.”
