Wolves get positive update on defender after injury concern

The centre-back had to be taken off in the second half during the previous match.

Wolves have been boosted by the news Nasser Djiga avoided injury in Sunday’s 1-0 win at Sheffield United.

The defender was forced off with 20 minutes remaining at Bramall Lane, with boss Cesar Peixoto later admitting he was unsure of the reason.

It is now understood the 23-year-old, who has started the club’s last five Championship matches, was suffering from cramp and not any kind of more serious injury.

Djiga is likely to be rested for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie at Everton, with Wolves hoping to have him available for Sunday’s Black Country Derby against Albion.

Toti Gomes came off the bench to replace the Burkina Faso international against the Blades, as Wolves kept their first league clean sheet of the season.

Peixoto’s men had conceded 10 goals in their first five Championship matches.

Midfielder Andre told the club’s website: “We knew we needed to compete a lot and defend well.

“We did this, we competed, we fought for each other, we helped each other, and it was a good win.

“A clean sheet was very important. The teams which want to get promotion need to defend better. We need more clean sheets and to defend better, and Sunday was a great start, and we need to keep going.”
