Wolves evacuate part of stand after fan hit by falling metal during Premier League match
Incident happened during the first half.
Wolves were forced to evacuate part of the South Bank during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland after a supporter was hit by a piece of falling metal.
The fan was treated by medical staff on the scene after being struck by a fixing, which fell from a PA speaker attached to the roof of the stand during the first half.
That prompted the club to move supporters in the same area, located toward the front of the stand close to the Graham Hughes Stand, to another part of the ground at half-time as a precaution.
An area of 200 empty seats was visible during the second half.
The supporter hit by the metal piece sustained only minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment, after being tended to inside the ground.
Wolves were booed off at full-time after being held to a draw despite playing against 10 men for most of the match.
Sunderland defender Dan Ballard was sent-off in the 24th minute for pulling the hair of Wolves striker Tolu Arokodare.
Santiago Bueno scored in the second half to cancel out Nordi Mukiele’s early opener for the visiting side but the hosts, who are already condemned to relegation from the Premier League, could not find a winner.
