"First to give my best. To not give up. And to have a positive impact and show a great desire to get forward."

The words of new signing Jeremy Helan, when asked what fans can expect of him, will please the disenchanted Molineux hordes no end.

Helan comes equipped, despite his age of 23, with a wealth of Championship experience, having played 139 times for Sheffield Wednesday since November 2012.

The Frenchman featured for the Owls on loan before moving permanently from Manchester City in 2013, leaving Eastlands without ever playing for the club.

Kenny Jackett tried unsuccessfully to beat Wednesday to his signature back then. And Jackett's desire to sign him again hasn't been lost on Helan, who revealed the boss wants him to 'shake things' at underperforming Wolves.

He said: "It's a big club. I'm glad to be here, the club have shown some faith in me and I'm going to do my best for the club.

"He (Jackett) knows I can play left-back and left midfield and he wants me to have a positive impact on the team.

"The positive impact he wants me to have is to shake things a bit, try my best and help the team.

"First of all football is 11 players. No player can change anything on his own, it will be a team challenge."

Helan is equally as comfortable at left-back and left midfield.

Does he have a preference where he plays?

"At Wednesday I've played in both positions, it's nothing new for me," he said.

"(I will look to ) create things, be dangerous, be a threat, that's what's asked of a wide player."

There were two familiar faces at Compton Park to welcome former Rennes youngster Helan.

He has known Nouha Dicko since the pair were teenagers in France. And Helan was team mates with Emiliano Martinez when the keeper was on loan with Wednesday.

After a first training session, played at a 'good intensity and a nice atmosphere', Helan said he couldn't wait to get playing again, after being frozen out of the Wednesday side of late.

"In previous years I've been playing," Helan said. "This year, not as much playing time, so it's something I was missing and I'm looking forward to getting some minutes.

"I've still got one year left on my contract at Wednesday. I'm just concentrating on Wolves at the minute, they've showed faith in me so the best thing I can do is give 100 per cent.

"Wolves have some quality players. When you go through a bad run it's never easy, it's difficult.

"But you can't say they don't have the players and the ability to go higher. That would be a lie."

Helan thinks Wolves should use the example of tomorrow's opponents Derby, who have ended a recent bad run by winning two games on the bounce.

"We have to fight," he added. "We're playing some teams that are fighting for the play-offs. It's a great challenge to have that feeling that you can compete with those type of teams, and finish as high as possible."

n Wolves remain without injured trio Mike Williamson, Michal Zyro and James Henry. They will all be assessed next week ahead of Friday's trip to Middlesbrough.
