'The right characteristics' - Wolves confirm Bertrand Traore signing

The winger has agreed a one-year deal at Molineux.

Cesar Peixoto believes the addition of Bertrand Traore provides the wide option he needs at Wolves after the winger’s signing was confirmed.

The 30-year-old former Villa man has agreed a one-year contract at Molineux and will add further depth to the squad as Wolves target an immediate return to the Premier League.

A right-sided, left-footed winger had been near the top of Peixoto’s wishlist heading into the final days of the transfer window.

And though Wolves were unable to strike a deal prior to last week’s deadline, they have now persuaded free agent Traore to join.

Peixoto said: “It’s important for us. It’s a position we wanted, a winger who is strong one versus one and fast.

“A left foot is important for me, to play on the right, to go inside with the ball and assist or manage the game. He’s an experienced guy who knows English football.

“He’s a good player to improve the team, one more option.

“He needs time to get fit because he’s been working alone, and he needs time to know our idea of the game, but another option to help us fight to get to the Premier League.

“He has the right characteristics I want in this position – one versus one, strength, a left foot to score or assist, he’s fast to attack the space.

“We need more options with different characteristics, Rodrigo (Gomes) with the right foot, Bertrand with the left.”

Traore, who played 62 times for Villa between 2000 and 2023, spent last season in the Premier League with Sunderland.

Wolves chairman Nathan Shi added: “In this position on the pitch it was our aim to bring in someone who could have an immediate impact on the squad and give the coaching staff more flexibility and options.

“We’re delighted Bertrand has decided to join us.

“He brings extensive experience of the English game, which will benefit our dressing room, and he was the ideal match for Cesar’s needs in a right winger, so we’re confident he will help us a lot during a long and challenging Championship season.”
