The 21-year-old had enjoyed a strong season so far, securing three pole positions and maintaining a 100 per cent podium record in the PRO class before the latest round.

Jenkins continued his perfect podium record by finishing second in the opening race, only to see that streak come to an end in race two as a handling issue and a penalty saw him drop down to seventh.

He said: “It was certainly an up-and-down weekend, but overall, I have to be pleased with our performance and the pace we produced.

“We’ve come away with a good haul of points and not lost much ground in the standings, so we are still well in the fight!”

Jenkins qualified second for race one and made a strong start, challenging title rival Callum Voisin for the lead, while also recording the fastest lap of the race on his way to second.

But race two saw that podium run come to an end as a balance and handling issue saw him drop to fifth on the road before a five-second penalty for track-limit infringements dropped him to seventh.

Jenkins remains just 12 points behind the championship leader heading into the next round at Donington Park on August 22 and 23.
