Wolves loan duo in demand

Wolves young guns Mark Little and Dan Jones are wanted by Northampton.

Wolves young guns Mark Little and Dan Jones are wanted by Northampton.

Cobblers chief Stuart Gray has revealed he is keen to sign the pair permanently after they enjoyed succesful loan spells at Sixfields this season.

Jones, who scored three times in 20 starts from left-back for the Cobblers, has only figured once since returning to Wolves last month and found himself behind Michael Gray and George Elokobi in the first team reckoning at Selhurst Park last weekend.

Little – who is out injured at the moment – has found his path to the first team blocked by Kevin Foley.

Gray wants to be first in the queue if the pair are made available this summer and he believes the lure of regular first-team football may encourage them to look for pastures new at the end of the campaign.

"I'd love to bring them both to this football club permanently," said Gray.

"But unfortunately what you find is the top clubs are able to stockpile players and have bigger squads than we can carry.

"It would ultimately be down to Mick McCarthy and Wolves if they wanted to let them go. It would be entirely their decision.

"Mark is definitely enjoying his football. DJ (Jones) has gone back after enjoying his football and is now not getting much of a look-in there.

"Nothing beats playing. I think both of them have gone beyond reserve-team football and need to be in somebody's first team. Ideally that would be our first team."

Northampton's chances of signing either at the end of the season are slim.

They have little chance of capturing academy graduate Little, who is still highly regarded in Molineux circles despite rarely figuring for the first team in an injury-hit season.

He was rewarded for his progress with a new deal until the end of 2009/10.
