Scott Golbourne in talks over new Wolves deal

Wolves defender Scott Golbourne is in talks over a new contract.

The left-back's current deal expires next summer and Golbourne has previously spoken of his desire to remain at Molineux for longer.

After a stop-start 2014/15 in which he struggled for fitness and form, Golbourne has been back to his best of late.

And Wolves are moving to extend the deal of a player who was one of Kenny Jackett's first signings as boss in 2013.

"We're speaking to Scott. There's communication," Jackett said.

"He's a very good professional and a solid and consistent person and been a good performer.

"It seems like he's over his foot injury now which is really good news.

"It hampered him last year. It wasn't enough to stop him completely but it made his season stop-start, whereas this year there's been a more consistent approach

"He's a very experience, solid performer. He's done well for Wolves."

A host of senior players have been rewarded with contract extensions in recent months, including James Henry, Kevin McDonald, Matt Doherty, David Edwards, Nouha Dicko and Jack Price.

Golbourne has been part of a consistent back four in recent weeks and Wolves' defensive performances have improved as a result, with one goal conceded in their last three matches.

Jackett hopes to have a strong, injury-free squad at his disposal before long.

"Against Middlesbrough we lost a player through injury and didn't have a recognised senior back four player to go in," he added.

"With Ethan Ebanks-Landell and Kortney Hause back it'll help, particularly in the lead-up to Christmas.

"We want to be as strong as possible.

"The aim is to move up the league, it's very tight, very competitive, we've been inconsistent in terms of winning games.

"Having a strong squad and team is the way to do it."
