Rob Edwards seeking respite in Wolves' final home game of the campaign
Fulham travel to Molineux to face Wolves on Sunday.
Rob Edwards has urged his Wolves players not to end their Molineux campaign with a whimper in what could be their final home game for the club.
Fulham travel to the Black Country on Sunday to take on a Wolves side struggling at the foot of the table, with relegation already confirmed.
Wolves are planning a major overhaul of the squad this summer and it could be the final match at Molineux for many members of the squad.
Edwards has spoken to his players about that reality and called on them to use that as motivation to go out on some sort of high.
“For some, it could be the last time they play at Molineux,” the head coach said.
“The last couple of games could be the last time people play in the Premier League, so we want to try and make the most of it.
“I spoke about that (with the players), if people's families are there, they're obviously going to want to try and make it a good day.
“If we can perform well and if we can get a result, then obviously it makes it a more comfortable afternoon for us. So that's what we're aiming to do.”
Edwards was critical of his players before and after last week’s defeat to Brighton, as he labelled Wolves’ plight as ‘embarrassing’.
In a slightly more toned down press conference ahead of the Fulham game, the head coach said his players are capable of getting a result on Sunday if they are at their best.
”We've got to get through them as best as possible,” he said.
“We want to chuck everything at it to try and win the games and that's what we'll do, we're working really hard to do that.
“The one thing we can't guarantee is the win or the result, but we've got to give everything to try and finish as well as possible.
“I know, and everyone keeps reminding me and telling me, that in recent years we've not finished well as a football club. So, we need to try and do our best to make sure that we pick up two results.
“If we're right at it, then we're capable of doing that. There's no doubt about it.
“Of course, we know the situation, we don't want to finish bottom of the league and that's something to try and aim for as well.”
Fulham arrive having won just once in their last five Premier League games, and have lost their last two.
But they sit comfortably in 11th in the top flight after a solid campaign and Edwards is expecting a stern test.
”They're a good team,” he added.
“Marco Silva's done a brilliant job there. They're a good footballing team, they've got a nice way of going about it, but also now they look like a team that can compete with anyone on their day.
“They win in a number of different ways. Lots of movement and rotations, but there's obviously a good structure within that as well and really good individuals.
“I'd say that about 90 per cent of the league, it's a big, big challenge but one we're really looking forward to actually.
“Let's just go and deliver a performance now rather than me talking about what we've done this week or anything else.
“Let's just go and deliver a performance against a good team.”
