‘Perfection is promotion’ - Boss demands more despite Wolves resurgence

Wolves have hit form, but boss Cesar Peixoto has identified several areas where he wants to see further progress.

Cesar Peixoto is pleased with Wolves’ recent progress but insists perfection will only come with promotion.

Wolves travel to Wrexham this weekend looking to extend their unbeaten run to six matches and potentially climb to the top of the Championship.

Their recent revival has lifted the mood after a difficult return from the previous international break, but Peixoto is already demanding more from his side ahead of another two-week pause.

“When we are winning, I am more happy. But I worry all of the time because we have a lot to improve,” he told the Express & Star.

“I want us to play better with the ball. We have created a lot of chances and have been the better team in most of the games. But I think we can play better, we have the quality to play better.

“I am going to try to work on that. To make the team play better football. Not because we play bad football, we play well and win games, but I think we have the quality to do better. I am honest about that.

“I am determined to work and look at what we can improve, what we can train more on, which players have been injured and can return to give me more options.

“A coach stays worried about a lot of things all of the time. It is good, but not perfect. Perfect is when we finish the Championship in the top two positions.”

Wolves produced a stirring comeback to beat Bristol City in midweek and move into the automatic promotion places.

But Peixoto will be keen to avoid another frustrating return from the international break when his side resume their campaign against Charlton Athletic later this month.

Wolves endured a difficult spell following the previous break, but their recent form has boosted the promotion push.

Peixoto added: “I believe in the process. I say this all the time, when we don’t win, people feel like everything is bad. I don’t think in that way and now we’re winning, not everything is perfect either. We have to improve all the time.

“But it’s better to work with victories, with confidence, the environment is better because the players work very hard to win and we work to achieve these kinds of victories and stay near the top of the table.”
