Match-winner hopes Watford win can kickstart Wolves
The striker netted the only goal in Saturday’s win over Watford.
Match-winner Adam Armstrong believes the best is yet to come from Wolves after declaring: “You’d think we were bottom of the league.”
Saturday’s 1-0 win over Watford at Molineux, courtesy of Armstrong’s first goal in more than two months, lifted Wolves up to fourth in the Championship.
But boss Cesar Peixoto was booed for his decision to substitute Jordan James in the second half and faced chants of “you don’t know what you’re doing” from sections of the South Bank.
Armstrong acknowledged Wolves had not been at their best during a run of just one win in four, heading into Saturday’s match.
And he hopes victory over the Hornets can now be a launchpad for the games to come as the team looks to fulfil its potential.
“We’ve touched on that and trying to explain that that is the Championship,” he said.
“You’re two or three wins in a row away from being in the mix.
“We feel we haven’t been at our best in the last few weeks but from looking at the table, it’s crazy, you’d think with how some of the results have gone we were bottom of the league.
“But the mindset we have, we want to be the best we can and what a start today to kick on and go on a good run.”
Armstrong’s goal was his first at Molineux in a league fixture since signing from Southampton in January for £7million.
It proved enough to beat a struggling Watford side though the finish was nervier than needed, with the home side managing to get just three of their 24 attempts on goal on target.
“The disappointing thing is that we should probably have been two or three goals up at half-time, but that’s football,” said Armstrong.
“To see the game out was massive. In this league it’s tough and you’re always going to get chances against you.
“But the way we stuck at it and got the clean sheet and the three points was unbelievable.”
