Kenny Jackett: We must start the climb now

Kenny Jackett says it is 'imperative' Wolves act quickly to climb the table – and admits he is concerned with the team's current position.

Wolves are 14th in the Championship, nine points off the play-offs, having lost three on the bounce.

This weekend they face a resurgent Blues side who occupy Wolves' self-imposed minimum target this season – sixth position. And Jackett, who called for Wolves to continue with the spirit and desire shown in defeat to Middlesbrough last weekend, believes the next three matches offer an opportunity to bounce back.

"You're always looking at the table," Jackett said. "Yes, of course we're concerned. We finished seventh last year and our aim is to improve on that.

"At the moment we're nowhere near that.

"There is enough of the season left to have a good run at it and make the gap up, but we've got some work to do.

"It's imperative we act quickly and do our very best to make sure we make up that gap in terms of the sides chasing the teams at the top.

"You can see the division forming. To be fair, Birmingham are one of the sides that have bucked the trend because the ones at the top are the ones who have spent or have the greater resources."

Wolves have conceded nine goals and scored just three in their past three matches.

Despite the slump, the head coach said the mood in the camp remained positive.

"We've done it (bounced back) before," he added. "We're frustrated at exactly why and how we've had that bad seven days, but even so, the gap in goals from nine to three is quite considerable.

"The general feeling is good and determined. There's a balance between determination and confidence. That type of spirit will stand us in good stead if we can do better at keeping the goals against column."

Meanwhile, Wolves have signed 18-year-old attacker Daniel Armstrong on a three-year deal.

The former Hamilton Academical youngster is expected to join up with Scott Sellars' Under-21 squad ahead of their clash with Blackburn Rovers at Molineux on Friday

Armstrong

said: "It's amazing. I've been so impressed with everything that's happened and it feels like the right place for me.

"I want to kick on and push myself into that Under 21s team as fast as I can."
