And McCarthy, who played alongside Grant during his Celtic days, is sure Grant will have his men fired up for the occasion.

"I played with Pete up at Celtic. He is an old pal of mine and will have his team fired up for the game," said McCarthy.

"We know they are a good side. They have Carl Robinson, Robert Earnshaw and Darren Huckerby, so they have very good striking options.

"Granty had some great results when he took over, and, like everyone in this division, they are looking for that consistency. But I know how competitive he is and we can't take them lightly."

McCarthy and Grant had a few training ground run-ins during their spell at Parkhead, but were room- mates and have stayed in touch. The Wolves boss says their friendship gives Saturday's game an extra edge.

"We're the best of pals. We used to go at it like cat and dog in training, whether we were on the same side or opposing teams, and it was the same every day.

"The fact that we are friends probably gives it a bit of an extra edge for us,."
