Wolves managed to treble their outlay on departed striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, according to former boss Mick McCarthy.

The popular Icelandic striker left Molineux for Championship rivals Reading last week.

He netted just three goals in 42 appearances for Wolves but was a hit with many supporters for his whole-hearted approach up front.

And now ex-manager McCarthy has stated that Wolves received £3million from the Royals for his services.

That's despite paying an estimated £1m when buying Bodvarsson from German side Kaiserslautern a year ago.

The Tractor Boys were interested in taking Bodvarsson on loan. And McCarthy said on Tuesday evening: "We thought we were getting Bodvarsson on loan, but Reading bid £3m. We’ll keep looking (for a striker)."

Ipswich did take one Wolves player on loan though, signing defender Dominic Iorfa on a season-long deal.
