Bjorn Sigurdarson is like a new Wolves signing

Bjorn Sigurdarson might not be a new signing but, to use an old cliche which is certainly warranted in this situation, he certainly feels like one.

The Iceland striker last wore gold and black in December 2013. But two-and-a-half years later his unexpected comeback finally came at Brighton on Friday, when he played the last 23 minutes in place of James Henry on the right wing.

How did Jackett think Sigurdarson did on his return?

"I thought he played very well, I was pleased with what he did," the Wolves boss said. "He won a few headers, showed some power, linked a couple of times with Benik Afobe, he did well.

"The good thing is there's been no further problems with his back, which has taken quite a while (to recover).

"He's free of movement and looking for a chance and an opportunity, which he tells me he wants."

Sigurdarson moved to Molineux for £2.4m in 2012 but injuries, a lack of form and a change of boss with Jackett replacing Stale Solbakken saw him frozen out of the first-team picture.

Loan spells to Copenhagen and Molde followed and, despite that serious back injury, he has given himself an unlikely chance of earning a future with Wolves.

The striker's contract runs out in the summer.

Jackett said: "As a young man he had an opportunity here, came in for a lot of money and it didn't quite work out.

"He went back home, played at a couple of places on loan, but sees himself now as having a future in English football, he thinks he's suited to it and wants a chance in English football, and that's a good thing.

"I feel physically he has the attributes, he's 24 now and he has a lot going for him which we all hope in a Wolves shirt he can utilise.

"With six months to go he's not talking about going anywhere else or leaving, he's talking about doing it for Wolves and in English

football.

"After the time he's had here, which has been quite disappointing, it's great that he wants that and it shows a lot of character.

"Sometimes if you get a second bite at something you can look at things a bit differently,

"He certainly didn't do himself any harm with the brief appearance on Friday afternoon."
