Wolves aim to round off France trip with victory
Wolves were today preparing to return home after a successful week of pre-season preparations in France.
The players have made good use of the famed Clairefontaine academy's many training facilities in their secluded retreat in the Forest of Rambouillet.
Twenty-five players have been involved in the trip, although injuries have curtailed Carl Ikeme and Jed Wallace's involvement.
The players were given some downtime on Thursday morning and then had a 90-minute football session in the afternoon ahead of today's game against Paris FC.
Midfielder Kevin McDonald said it was good to get Wednesday's opening pre-season fixture against FC Chambly, which Wolves won 3-2, under the belt.
"It's a case of building up fitness now for the next few weeks and getting back to match fitness and sharpness," he said. "The main thing is getting your touch back which takes a couple of weeks and after that it all goes back to normal."
McDonald also welcomed the addition of fellow midfielder Conor Coady to the squad.
The pair briefly played together at Sheffield United and rekindled that partnership during the Chambly game.
McDonald said: "I played with Conor at Sheffield United and he's a good little player, a real workhorse and technically good. It was nice to play alongside him – he'll be a great addition to the squad."
A number of young players have been given the opportunity to join the first team squad in Clairefontaine, including Connor Ronan, Aaron Hayden, Declan Weeks and Bright Enobakhare.
Midfield Michael Jacobs said the younger players had no problems settling in.
"The young lads have fitted in really well," he said. "It's a good group to come into and they're doing well on the pitch too. The set-up here in Clairefontaine is really good, it's great to get the opportunity to use the French national team's base."
