Wolves topped League One for agents' fees

Wolves spent more than agents' fees than any other club last season, figures released today have revealed.

In total the Molineux club paid out £571,350 over 64 transactions during their League One title campaign.

Wolves' outlay was more than £200,000 the sum spent by the second team on the list, Bristol City, while Walsall were among the the lowest spenders – paying less than £10,000 in total.

Shrewsbury Town, meanwhile, didn't spend a penny in agents' fees.

The figures cover the 12 months from July 1 2013 to June 30 2014 and the transactions included contract renewals, new signings, cancellations and loans.

During the period Wolves recruited Sam Ricketts, Scott Golbourne, Kevin McDonald, James Henry, Michael Jacobs, Nouha Dicko, Leon Clarke and, amongst others, youngsters Kortney Hause and Eusebio Bancessi.

They also re-signed existing players including Danny Batth, Richard Stearman and Carl Ikeme.

In total, League One clubs paid £2,406,005 to agents with eight clubs spending over £100,000.

Second to Wolves came Bristol City who spent £339,467, then Brentford who spent £253,236, Preston £189,104, Bradford £157,680, Sheffield United £123,703, Coventry City £123,321 and Peterborough £118,873.

Swindon Town were ninth biggest spenders with £89,741 while MK Dons - victorious in the Capital One Cup against Manchester United on Tuesday - spent £79,185.
