Dave Edwards keen for Wolves stay

Dave Edwards today declared he hopes he's at Wolves next season – because he reckons Kenny Jackett will take them back to the big time.

Edwards scored his sixth goal of the season in Saturday's 2-0 win over Peterborough meaning he is now in his most prolific campaign at Molineux since joining in January 2008.

Wolves' latest victory put them 12 points clear of new third-placed team Rotherham, who have their game in hand at Sheffield United tomorrow night - and a maximum seven points away from clinching automatic promotion with five games left.

Edwards is out of contract this summer but would love an extension as he is convinced the club could go from League One to the Premier League.

"I'd love to hopefully be here next season," said the 28-year-old midfielder.

"Nothing has really been said yet so I'll just work hard and hopefully something will come up.

"But it's something I want to be a part of – you can see the way the club's going and to really be a part of that would be great because it's all going in the right direction now.

"If not I'll leave here with happy memories.

"I know I'm not a fans' favourite but I always give my best and as long as they know every day when I come into training I give 100 per cent and do the same in every game, hopefully that's enough for them and enough for the people upstairs to offer me a new contract.

"But we'll see – I'm happy at the moment and my only aim is to get us promoted."

Edwards believes that once promotion is assured, Wolves will climb back to the top under head coach Kenny Jackett.

"I think so. He's been a breath of fresh air and tactically, he's spot-on," said the Wales international.

"Hopefully we'll get it done in the next few weeks and then next season we really could be pushing high up that league.

"A consolidation season would be good but I really feel we could be pushing towards the other end.

"And I think we've got a really exciting style of play now.

"No Wolves team in my time has played this much football."

Edwards also believes the team spirit is the best at the club since Wolves won promotion to the Premier League in 2008-09.

"There's been a real team spirit around the whole club, from top to bottom," he said.

"This is so reminiscent of that Championship-title winning season.

"I don't think we had it this good in the Premier League – maybe in the Championship the season we went up it was similar characteristics in that we're a young team, all wanting to play in a higher league.

"And, as much as everyone hated getting relegated last season, it might have been a blessing in disguise.

"We've got the young lads who are ambitious and a few older pros who are good older pros; there are no big-time Charlies."
