The 22-year-old centre-back is into the final 12 months of his deal after the club took up the option on his contract in May.

Brierley Hill-born Batth is expected to finally make his big breakthrough and has been a regular throughout pre-season, being the stand-out player in Saturday's 3-2 defeat to Real Betis.

Asked if he would recommend Batth for a new contract, Jackett said: "He's somebody we do like and we'd like that to continue, yes. He's liked and rated by everybody inside the club.

"He didn't get as many starts last season as he would have liked but he wants to play for Wolves and wants to put that right now this season.

"He's a good professional who does things right. He has the ability to go on and be a leader in time.

"Danny's had a good pre-season. He's a right-sided centre-back who's more comfortable on his right foot than his left but is very committed.

"He had a good record in this division with Sheffield Wednesday two years ago."

Batth has taken advantage of Roger Johnson's exile and is ready to be a mainstay in the team after being awarded Jody Craddock's No 6 jersey following 12 appearances last term.

Jackett said: "Is he ready to be a regular? He is, from what I have seen in pre-season. He's been impressive and now I'm looking for him to handle League One strikers. That's his challenge now.

"His pre-season has been good. Now he needs to transfer that into League games."
