Jake Cassidy may get first foot in door at Wolves in New Year
Teenage Molineux striker Jake Cassidy has been primed for a New Year shot in the Wolves team.
But manager Stale Solbakken has closed the door on another of the club's young players scoring freely while on loan, Leigh Griffiths, getting the same opportunity.
Cassidy is once again banging in the goals for League One leaders Tranmere with 10 so far and rave reviews to accompany them.
Under the terms of his loan from Molineux, the 19-year-old will not be eligible to return to his parent club until January.
But with Solbakken admitting that his team's forward play is of increasing concern, the Wales Under-21 international is in line for a first team chance.
"At the moment we are in dialogue with Tranmere so he didn't play in the FA Cup at the weekend," said Solbakken.
"We have to think what is right for him – whether that's to continue playing at a certain level and getting confidence from that and building on it.
"The alternative is to come in to competition for places here where you may get every third or fourth game and your development is stopped a little bit. We have to make sure we do the right thing for all parties.
"I have seen some DVDs of Cassidy and we have scouts regularly watching him."
Solbakken admits that he still believes Cassidy will be better served by continuing with the in-form League One team until Christmas but acknowledged that there was a growing lobby for the youngster to be given a chance on his return.
"The advice I have had now is that we should take him back and look at him one more time," he added. He stays there until January and I think that is right for him."
Griffiths, however, is all set to make permanent his move to Hibernian where he has so far notched 11 goals and been an early winner of the SPL Player of the Month.
Solbakken said of the 22-year-old whose contract runs out next summer: "We already have strikers like him.
"You should never say never but probably we will be working on a transfer agreement.
"It would be silly to loan him in January because we won't get any money for him."
