Patrick Weiser is new Wolves coach
Patrick Weiser today jetted in to become Wolves' first-team coach to complete an all-foreign management trio.
The 40-year-old was set to arrive from Germany earlier today to link up with the squad before tomorrow's Championship clash at Huddersfield.
Former Cologne assistant manager Weiser replaces Terry Connor, who left at the start of last month after 13 years at the club.
Weiser becomes manager Stale Solbakken's second backroom appointment after Johan Lange, who was initially given the title of first- team coach.
It is thought Weiser will assume that role, with Lange stepping up to assistant to Solbakken. The appointment will complete an all-foreign trio at the helm with a Norwegian manager, a Danish assistant boss and a German coach.
Weiser watched the 1-0 win at Blackburn 13 days ago and is well known to Solbakken, having been promoted by him at the Bundesliga club last season.
"Patrick is one of the guys who we've been talking to for a long time," said Solbakken on October 8.
Weiser worked with Solbakken from July 2011 to last April when the Norwegian was sacked.
Before that he was youth- team coach for two years with the German club, where he also served as a defender or midfielder from 1991-97 and 2005-07.
After 110 appearances for Cologne, Weiser – whose 18-year-old son Mitchell, a right-winger, plays for Bayern Munich – spent two years with Rennes, where he played 39 times before returning to the Bundesliga with Vfl Wolsfburg, adding another 159 games before ending his career back at Cologne and moving into coaching.
Lange said today the manager, backroom staff and players are all integrating well.
"We have a great group of players and the backroom staff as well and we're working towards the same goals," he said.
"The ideas the manager has for the team and the implementation of those have just got better and better which is very positive."
