West Brom's Tony Pulis frustrated at late equaliser

Tony Pulis expressed frustration after a late goal denied Albion victory at Sunderland.

Nacer Chadli's first half goal looked to have put the Baggies on course for a third Premier League win of the season, only for substitute Patrick Van Aanholt to earn the struggling Black Cats a point seven minutes from time.

And Pulis admitted a failure to kill the game off ultimately cost his team dear.

"Obviously we're disappointed," he said. "We've had 21 crosses 18 shots and we had the opportunities and the chances.

"We needed a second goal. I thought the supporters were brilliant here today.

"They stuck with them and when they got up a little head of steam they were fantastic."

Both Darren Fletcher and Salomon Rondon were denied by Sunderland keeper Jordan Pickford during the second half, while the Baggies were sometimes guilty of choosing the wrong option in the final third.

But they had looked comfortable at the back, making Van Aanholt's late leveller all the more galling.

He said: "The goals disappointing because he hits into the ground. We've got two players between him and the goal if he hits it cleanly.

"We've already made a couple of good blocks prior to that. He hits it into the ground and it goes into the top corner.

"I'm very pleased with the players. They worked hard. The running stats are very very good.

The stats going forward are good.

"The big thing is that final third where we just need that little bit more quality."
