West Brom Women seal deal for striker and social media influencer

The high-profile social media influencer and striker has checked into Albion Women’s squad after promotion with Peterborough.

Albion Women have sealed the signing of high-profile striker Tara Kirk from Peterborough United.

The 23-year-old forward is the latest addition to Albion’s squad ahead of the new National League North campaign, step three of the pyramid in the women’s game.

Kirk rose to prominence on and off the pitch during her time at Posh Women, and from there has built a career around media, presenting and social media content.

A former Leicester youngster, Kirk made her senior debut for the Foxes in 2019. She moved to Peterborough prior to the 2022/23 campaign and was the club’s 12-goal top scorer in her debut season.

Game time was harder to come by last season, however, as unbeaten Peterborough cliched the Northern Division One Midlands crown to win promotion to Albion’s step three.

Kirk made 14 appearances - 13 of which were as a substitute - and scored three times.

Throughout her four seasons at Peterborough, Kirk’s goalscoring would often draw impressions of several thousands of reactions online.

The striker, who primarily works in events management, saw her profile increased further with cameos on popular YouTube channels, such as football influencer Joe Weller, whose channel boasted more than five million followers at the time.

In 2024 she appeared on YouTube with former Villa star Jack Grealish and celebrity influencer ‘Angry Ginge’. Kirk has more than 80,000 followers across social media sites X and Instagram.

Kirk said after completing her move: “It’s nice to get it over the line and I can’t wait to get started. Everyone has been so welcoming. I'm very fortunate with the way I’ve been accepted in the group, and I can't wait to do as well as I can for the club.

“I’m very impressed with the facilities. It’s really great that the women’s team get looked after so well here, and that was a big deal for me when joining.

“I’ve spoken with Siobhan Hodgetts-Still and Martyn Irvine. They’ve both been super welcoming and it’s been great to meet them and train under them. They’re both very ambitious and that matches me perfectly.”

She adds more firepower to boss Siobhan Hodgetts-Still’s squad ahead of the new campaign, though the women’s boss is currently away on maternity leave, with Martyn Irvine in interim charge in the meantime.

Irvine’s side were held to a 1-1 draw by Real Bedford on Sunday in their latest pre-season friendly. Welsh forward Rhianne Oakley bagged the Baggies’ goal from the penalty spot. Albion are in action in a behind-closed-doors friendly with Leafield Athletic on Wednesday.
