West Brom provide Toby Collyer injury update after hamstring blow

The midfielder limped off in the victory on Saturday.

Albion have confirmed Toby Collyer has been sidelined until December as a result of a hamstring injury.

The midfielder was withdrawn shortly before half-time in Saturday’s fightback victory over Blackburn at The Hawthorns.

Collyer, a £4million summer recruit from Manchester United, underwent scans on the muscle and is set to miss a period of five to six weeks.

That takes him beyond the November international break and into the first half of December. James Morrison’s side play 10 matches between now and December 12.

“Toby had a scan earlier this week, which we received the results from on Tuesday,” said Baggies director of medical Tony Strudwick.

“Unfortunately, it confirmed he has sustained an injury to his hamstring.

“We expect him to be out for five to six weeks, with a potential return to training at the end of November.

“As always, we will fully support Toby in his recovery – and if everything goes to plan he should return to match action in early December.”

Collyer, who endured muscle injury difficult on loan at The Hawthorns last term, started his third game in eight days against Rovers.

Head coach Morrison revealed afterwards he went against advice from club medical staff to start Collyer as the boss felt the midfielder would be important in the fixture.

Morrison had hoped to use Collyer for up to 60 minutes, but the former Old Trafford youngster felt some discomfort before the interval.

Albion return to action looking to continue winning form on the road at rock-bottom Preston on Saturday, before a trip to second-placed West Ham.

Collyer’s absence will place more emphasis on midfield colleagues Jayson Molumby, Ousmane Diakite and fellow new recruit Rabby Nzingoula.
