West Brom hero Paul Robinson outlines vision for James Morrison's journey as boss

Two-time Albion promotion favourite Paul Robinson is a new recruit at the Express & Star and he joined the Baggies Broadcast podcast for the first time as a weekly guest this week to discuss his former team-mate - who is now at the helm.

Former Albion promotion hero Paul Robinson has no doubt boss James Morrison will continue to flourish from his early days in management - but stressed his former team-mate will need time.

The pair were title-winning colleagues at The Hawthorns and Morrison has enjoyed a wonderful start to life as a head coach, rescuing the club’s Championship status last season and having Albion three points off top spot after 11 games this term.

Former left-back Robinson has joined the Express & Star as a new weekly guest on the Baggies Broadcast podcast, available to watch on YouTube here or below, and believes Morrison has been smart in studying the top bosses he has worked under as a player and coach.

Robinson did, however, add that Morrison, 40, has to be afforded time as he develops his own style and methods as a head coach.

"One hundred per cent he will get there - he will get there," Robinson told the Baggies Broadcast of Morrison's journey in management.

"As a manager it's about experience and it's learning. Mozza's learning every game.

"He's learning about his players, the opposition he's playing, and that will only make him better for that.”

Morrison recently endured successive league defeats for the first time as Baggies boss, against rivals Wolves and Birmingham, but his side reacted in some style.

They stared down the barrel of a third defeat at Wrexham but fought back to win late before Saturday’s thrilling last-gasp fightback victory over Blackburn, showing spirit in bucketloads.

Robinson added: "Mozza will try to implement his own style but learn from the great managers, like Tony (Mowbray) he played with.

"It's finding the balance. You have to find the right players that can do that.

"For me it's about time, with someone like Mozza. He's a young manager. He's learned the hard way so far, he's been away from Albion and worked with Scotland with Steve Clarke, he'll have seen international as well as club level, working under Carlos (Corberan) and others.

"I think someone like (assistant coach) Matt Gill will be perfect for him. He can lean on him, he can lean on other staff members, he's brought people with him who he knows, like Tony McMahon. It's having that someone he can relate to as a person.

"It's great to lean on people like Tony Mowbray because he is an unbelievable human being and total football person.

"He will help Mozza develop into that manager, which is great, and you don't always get that.

"But, like I said, it will take time. Time for Mozza to gel the team, for his philosophy, style of football, when he can get his perfect team then we can see that. But for me that's got to take time."

The new era of the Baggies Broadcast, featuring Paul Robinson, can be found weekly on podcast platforms Apple Podcast and Spotify, as well as in video on YouTube.
